More of your questions…answered.

July 31, 2010

Happy Saturday!

Here are some questions that you guys asked us wayyyyy back in the day–we are answering them little by little!

Hope you have a fun weekend.

Anakellya: What is the best part about your job?

Traveling, doing what we love, meeting great people…those are just a few. There a lot of really GREAT things about our job!

Emma (she’s got a few questions): 1. What are your fave songs of all time and why?

Jill: “Stay” by Lisa Loeb. It’s simply my favorite song ever written.

Kate: I hate this question….I stew over it for hours…I would have to say “Top of the World” by Patty Griffin.

2. Edward Cullen or Bill Compton (True Blood)?

Edward. (Neither of us have seen True Blood…so I guess Edward has an unfair advantage.)

3. Is there a difference between UK and US fans?

Yes. The UK fans seem to have this crazy accent going on. What’s that about?? 🙂 Just kidding. We love all fans the same.

4. Please will u do a UK gig for us soon? (Louise asked this too)

We hope to. Seriously. We miss those accents.

Jen: Can fans only get your songs off Youtube and will you guys ever do your own concert?

Fans can get our songs on iTunes or order our CD’s from our new online store! And yes…we just played on July 1st and are hoping to do some more shows soon! Check back to our blog soon to see when we might play a last minute show near you!

Stephany: 1.What was your reaction at all the press you ladies received for NSOT17th for The Climb?

It was crazy! Who knew it would get press at all? We love that song and are glad other people seemed to like that video. 🙂

2. If you could go back in time to see how they were as a kid who would you chose between Jason, Cory, Einar, Ric, Miles, or Aben?

Jill: Einar for sure. Oooh…Miles would be a good option too. The best would be to see all of them hanging out together as kids. Haha. That would be a good time.

Kate: Hmm….I would say Miles…he’s so entertaining to watch as an adult I can only imagine his energy as a child 🙂

3. How do your families feel about you guys being away for long periods of time?

How could they not miss these faces? But in all seriousness, both of our families are very supportive of what we do. We have both been blessed with really great families.

Lauren: What I’d like to know is do you have a favorite inspirational quote and also who inspires you, what inspires you?

Jill: I love this quote from the movie “The Answer Man” which I think we’ve blogged about before. Lauren Graham’s character says that there are three rules she lives by:

1. Don’t take advice from someone you wouldn’t trade places with.

2. Try not to do something you can’t take back.

3. Something is what it is and it’s not something else.

I also am inspired by Emily Dickinson poems and Patty Griffin songs. Most of all, I think I mostly find inspiration in the people around me. You usually don’t have to look to far to find inspiring people.

Kate: There is a book called “Who You Are When No One’s Looking” and the whole premise is that ‘character’ is who you are when no one’s looking. I love that. Also I get tons of inspiration from other blogs that I read (I’m kind of a nerd-haha) but there is something about people being honest in the situations they find themselves in…whether it’s motherhood or decorating… I love reading all different blogs.

Ashley: What’s your absolute favorite song to perform live?

Jill: Finding My Own Way or Pop Song.

Kate: “You Might Break My Heart” on the piano.

Elizabeth: What did you guys do for NYE? Did you get to spend it in nashville or at home with your fam?

New Year’s was in Nashville this year and pretty low key. We’d been traveling SO much that it was nice to just chill at home. 🙂

More questions to come–slowly, but surely. 🙂

Dentist Debacle

July 30, 2010

Well…I went to my dear dentist’s office yesterday. No one likes going to the dentist, but I found a new dentist here in Nash and I really don’t mind him or his staff. I mean no one enjoys sticking needles or drills near their faces, right? But this staff is super nice so it lessens the misery slightly.

Also, the thing I discovered last time at my dentist visit is that they give you this little magical potion called nitrous oxide…which makes you feel like you are flying in a magical land of bliss…except it kind of makes me feel queasy–which I also discovered the last time I visited.

So, yesterday I went back and before he started I explained that I didn’t really love the queasy feeling I got from the nitric oxide. He promised they would monitor me closely and he went ahead with it (you know where this story is going…)

There I was–off in la-la-land listening to Patty Griffin on my iPod–with this in/over my mouth:

This is a weird/new contraption that they put over your mouth to make sure nothing foreign falls down your throat, etc. So there I was, feeling saucy from the awesome drugs they gave me, listening to good music…AND THEN…

I push pause and try talking to my dentist “I don’t feel good, I feel like I am gonna throw up.” He’s all precious and older and like okay…and then…

I throw up all over myself.

But if we remember to reference the lovely contraption they put in my mouth to keep things from falling down my throat…

…that also means that nothing could come up from my throat….yes…it was one of my most claustrophobic moments ever and I was throwing up with this thing covering my MOUTH!

So there’s my embarrassing story of the week. The nurse-helper-assistant girl said she’d never seen a more graceful puker. Haha…I think she was trying to make me feel better….I politely excused myself and went to the bathroom to remove the throw-up from my shirt, neck, pants and shoulder….

The WORST part of the whole thing is that because of my little puking incident, he didn’t get to do what he was supposed to do so now I have to go back 😦 Boooo…..

Alright–sorry for my gross puking story….

Until next time.

Shipping Shenanigans

July 27, 2010

Alrighty. We have been spending quite a lot of time at the good old Post Office lately. They know us by name.

So, to answer some of your questions about your Merch orders…here ya go:

If you ordered in the first week and you are from outside of the USA, you got a killer deal on shipping! Our bad, but you’re welcome. 🙂 Don’t worry, your orders are on their way across the deep blue sea and should arrive soon! You will not have to pay extra for shipping.

The first week of orders had some old school j&k stickers on them–if you have ordered more recently you might not have bright J&K stickers on your boxes/envelopes like the earlier orders did and it’s not because we don’t love you as much, we just wanted to give people a little something extra that ordered in the first week.

Thank you to everyone who has ordered and also for all the amazing MUGSHOTS that have been taken so far! We will be picking a winner very soon so make sure to get any last-minute entries in for July. Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten your mug yet…we will pick another winner in August!

From your post-office-loving pals,

New Song on July 17th, 2010

July 17, 2010

I need you

More than I thought I did

I am empty

I have nothing to give

But it’s not about me

This life that I live

So I need you

More than I thought I did

I miss you

More than I knew I would

I am lonely

And misunderstood

It’s not a race

But I’d run if I could

Cause I miss you

More than I knew I would

I love you

With all that I am

Why you love me

I don’t understand

It’s overwhelming

But I’ll fight ’til the end

Cause I love you

With all that I am

I love you

With all that I am

With all that I am

No Shoes, No Shirts & Not Any Type of Service

July 16, 2010

So…we decided to take a little break from the daily grind and head to the great outdoors!  We found a place that rents canoes about 45 minutes from Nashville. Jill has had many experiences with canoeing (mostly in New Hampshire), but it was Kate’s first time canoeing on a river. We signed up for the 4 hour trip…packed lunches and were looking forward to some nice time in the sun…relaxing in nature 🙂

Upon arriving to literally this tiny “shack” that rents canoes, a seventeen year old “Zac Efron wanna-be” took our money and drove us in an old, beat up van with canoes attached, down to the drop site. Kate kept asking him for instruction/insight or any useful tools for canoeing. All he replied was “If you wanna go right, paddle left. If you wanna go left, paddle right.” (Imagine that being said in a really ‘Southern’ accent.) He put our canoe in the water, handed us the paddles and waved goodbye. Guess we were good to go…?

So, there we were floating down the river and all of a sudden these little rapids started popping up. Nothing major, but we would paddle pretty hard and the current still would pull our little canoe whichever way it wanted. We bumped into a tree once, which freaked out Kate to a severe degree, but we continued on our way. There were a lot of trees and debris in the river due to the floods awhile back and there were also areas of total calm water…very peaceful for the most part.

We stopped on a sand/rock bank and ate the lunch we had packed. The best decision all day was to a) bring the cooler and not just throw lunch in a plastic bag and b) to put our keys, wallets and cell phone in a zip-lock bag and put that inside the cooler.

So far so good…right? Keep reading…

When we had been out for about three and a half hours, we were approaching a curve in the river with a huge tree tipped over in the middle. We debated which way to pass and decided it would be best to go on the right…we started paddling hard, but alas, the current was too strong for us. It took us and slammed us into the tree, then scooped us sideways. We tried pushing off of the tree, but the current was too strong underneath us and our canoe flipped right over.

PAUSE: OUR CANOE FLIPPED OVER AND IN 0.5 SECONDS, JILL AND KATE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIVER. The current was SO strong that it sort of pinned us to the canoe and we watched out shoes, shirts and towels float away. Kate was hanging onto the boat for dear life and Jill was determined to get the cooler which was wedged under the boat. We needed our keys, wallets, and phone after all!  We were both freaking out a decent amount, but Jill calmly kept wrestling to get the cooler out and Kate just kept saying that we were gonna be okay and that standing in the middle of the river really wasn’t so bad. Neither of us had planned on getting in the water because of the slight chance that a water snake would want to be friends…so not freaking out about being stuck in the water was huge people, HUGE.

After about ten minutes, Jill got the cooler unlodged (woop woop)…we both hung onto it and floated in the current to the shore. We looked helplessly at our canoe jammed into the tree in the middle of the river. Kate’s cell phone was damp, but working…but unfortunately, there was NO SERVICE. So there we were, no shoes, no shirts (thankfully we still had our swim suits) and not any type of service.

After about 5 more minutes another canoe came along with two brothers and their dog inside. They decided to go to the left of the tree. We were waving them down and they didn’t seem to be paying any attention to us. Jill got a little perturbed until all of a sudden she realized that they TOO were flipping over! Their dog was scrambling and getting sucked away with the current…one of the brothers grabbed him by the tail and saved him!  We helped them get their canoe to the side–theirs luckily didn’t get stuck–and then they tried to help us get our canoe out. One of the brothers was able to get it unlodged a bit but then it just got stuck in a different spot even more!

The kind brothers Sheldon and Marshall took us in their canoe with their dog down the rest of the river to safety! We never thought we’d ever really have to play the damsel in distress card so much–but man…these two boys totally came to our rescue!

We don’t have any pictures of our canoe adventure because we didn’t want to use the cell phone for anything besides getting us to safety.

It was super scary, frightening and we probably wont be canoeing on a river anytime soon.

Be safe and stay away from canoes.
