Building in Africa!

January 26, 2011

Happy Wednesday!

First–who is loving #tweetbacktuesday?? We are!! So fun to chat with y’all 🙂

Secondly….We don’t have a ton of time to write a lengthy post, but wanted to share a few pictures of one of the Houses of Hope buildings that is currently under construction. My dad just returned today from South Africa…below are a couple pictures of the new building that he worked on while he was there.

Some of the money that was raised at A Night For Hope is being used to build this house. THANK YOU!!

Last but not least….many of you have been asking about the “A Night For Hope” t-shirts…and YES…we will still be auctioning them off on eBay & YES, we will definitely let you know when we do 🙂 Thanks again for all of your love and support of these kiddos….

Ahhhh. I sometimes wish I weren’t as sensitive as I am. I am pretty sensitive. I mean under my outward independent-woman-kick-butt-cause-I-can-do-anything-skin…I’m sensitive. I get my feelings hurt, I cry about only really important stupid stuff and most of the time I feel like a big giant cry-baby girl because of it. Seriously.True story. But, when I stop to think about it, my sensitivity, I am thankful for. Because as I have been observing recently the opposite of being sensitive is being hard…and when you are hard you can become cold and numb…and well, that’s not good. Cause when that happens you can sometimes stop feeling things…good, bad, happy or tragic or heart-stopping…it all just kind of passes you by like a blurry vision from a speeding train’s window. So, embrace your tears or hurt feelings…tell whoever or whatever is hurting you nicely to STOP & then pat yourself on the back cause hey…you’re sensitive and that’s a-okay.

I love this song (Sensitive) by Jewel…I sing it to myself sometimes when I feel like someone is needing a reminder…that well, I’m sensitive and I’d like to stay that way. xoxo -k

It doesn’t take a talent to be mean

Your words can crush things that are unseen

So please be careful with me, I’m sensitive

And I’d like to stay that way.

5 things.

January 15, 2011

So this is Jill and I just downloaded this new app on my iPhone. It is a daily journal of sorts where you write 5 things you’re thankful for everyday. I like this because it helps me to think more positively. It’s easy to complain about things like how cold it is or how hungry I am at any given point during the day when in reality I should be thankful that I have a warm house and I can eat whenever I want to….etc.

So join me if you’d like. Write down 5 things you are thankful for everyday. Start with us today. Here are 5 from j&k…then leave us your 5 in the comments section.

1. Health.   It’s easy to take it for granted when you’re healthy, but it really is a gift.

2. Friends.  Our lives would be really boring and sad without friends.

3. Music.     Yesterday we sat around with some friends and played music for a couple hours. It’s like a spa day for the soul.

4. Trader Joe’s.  So this is a little shallow, but seriously. You know about our love for TJ’s. Have you tried their chicken apple sausage? How about their creamy tomato soup?? Don’t even get us started.

5. YOU!       We are so thankful for you guys who follow our blog and support our music. Thank you for being awesome.

Your turn. Go.

Get Your #workingclass ON!!!!

January 5, 2011

So, we have a friend and she is fabulous. Not only is she fabulous because she is one of the funniest people God ever created…she is fabulous cause she is one of the nicest, kindest, warmest people you’ll ever meet. We are talking about the one, the only…Melissa Peterman (look at this shnazzy pic we found of her on the internets…)

We met her a few years ago through some mutual friends & she people is the real deal….the real deal!!!!!!!

As many of you know, she is a rip-roarin’ comedian and she has a new TV show coming out called “WORKING CLASS”

Run, don’t walk to your DVR & set it up right this second…you will not want to miss it! Earlier this year we got to stop by the set and see her in action while they were filming the show…we even got to meet some of her TV family…Steve Kazee is also one of the actors on the show and he was super cool too …here are a couple snapshots of us there:

It was super fun to get to see them filming…we definitely LOLed a bunch so we can’t wait to see the show… Today when we were driving around nashville we saw a billboard for Working Class & got so excited (whoooop whooop!)…we thought it would be great to do a little blog action about it!

So…what are you gonna do??? 1) WATCH WORKING CLASS! 2) Tell all your friends to watch it too!

Much love & congrats to the show…we can’t wait!

Not So New Newsletter

January 2, 2011

So, because we like you guys so much & are so thankful for your support we thought it would be fun to send out a newsletter every few months…you know…the goings on of j&k that we may have failed to mention in a blog with some fun memories, pics, etc. Yes, great idea. Woohoo. Wellll…the funny part about this story & very much “j&k-ish” thing is we did a newsletter and then FORGOT that we did it…hahahaa….so the “news” part of the letter isn’t really news but we thought we’d share it with you anyway. We’ll be doing on of these every so often if y’all like them…if not…we still might make them and send them to our moms 🙂 Click below to read:

Love from the newsies…

Won’t You Come Again

January 1, 2011

Okay, so you should go to iTunes and check this song out by Susie Suh called “Won’t You Come Again.” Her music is so hypnotic and sad. Hope you like it as much as we do. Happy January. (Look at us, we’re still blogging!)

Won’t You Come Again

What do I say
On this January day
When all my thoughts have gone astray
But I’m thinking ’bout you

And what do I do
When I’m black and I’m blue
And I’m still loving you
But I know it was meant to end

Oh, I’m missing you
Or maybe I’m just missing who I was
When I was with you

Oh love, oh love
Oh won’t you come again
Take me in your arms and hold me
Make me feel new again

And how do I convey
All the words that I could never say
To you when you were around

Oh, I’m missing you
Or maybe I’m just missing how I felt
When I was with you

Oh love, oh love
Oh won’t you come again
Take me in your arms and dance with me
Make me feel alive again

Oh love, oh love
Won’t you come again
Take me in your arms and hold me
Make we want to laugh and sing
Make me want to love again
