Holy overwhelmed.

I’m calling it. I’m overwhelmed. In the year 2011 there is just so much at your finger tips with social networking this, and DIY that…there is too much, people…TOO much!  I mean, it literally took us a good, long while to figure out how to archive our blog… don’t judge people, don’t judge…but yes, YES, we did it! Look to your right…———> Our blog archives. Whoop whoop. Now you can read all of our past posts without having to do a whole bunch of searching. Maybe MTV could do a new TV show called “Pimp My Blog”…ahahaha…we would definitely enter that contest.

But OMG, I (kate) literally was looking up HTML code and trying to figure out how to create those stupid little awesome boxes to the right. Let’s just say that me + HTML-coding is a really funny sight to see. Okay, this is turning into my whining about not being tech-savvy enough. But it’s kinda fun.

Seriously though, what are your favorite “social networking” tools? What sites do you frequent? Cause sheesh…there are a lot of them. Right now, we have:

What else are we missing people?

You are missing a Tumblr! 🙂

  2. Melissa Says:

    A tumblr!

  3. Sandy Penney Says:

you’re missing that new thing “tumblr” or something like that. I don’t even know what it is but I see people talking about it all the time.

  4. AP Says:

yep, you probably need a tumblr! I think most people will click through to an external site by first visiting your facebook or twitter.

I’m an html/css designer and would be glad to assist you with any coding issues 🙂

  5. Monica Says:

Yall already had your website up on tumblr for a while… so I mean, you did just about cover it all.

P.S. Love the picture you used for this post. Cracked me up.

  6. Steph Says:

    Totes Tumblr.

I don’t know if you know this, but there’s this pretty sweet fan-run tumblr: http://fuckyeahjillandkate.tumblr.com/

and an official one w/stuff from YOU GUYS (girls) would be awesome/hilarity/funfunfun

  7. Amanda Says:

Yes, yes. Tumblr is what’s gooood, but you two did have a brief flirtation with that a while ago? If I remember correctly.

Umm. My music biz profs like to talk about all new social media tools constantly, but ughh. Sensory overload for me. I’m fine with FB/Twitter/Tumblr. FB to touch base with friends/family, Twitter to keep up with my favorite celebs/musicians/whatever else, and then Tumblr to be all artsy~ and stuff.

Here’s one for you! Did you know a lot of bands have been making their own apps lately?! Yeah. It’s pretty legit. I dunno if that’d be in the good ol’ JK budget (or if you’d even have the energy to keep up with it), but it seems pretty legit. I know several companies that do it too, but can’t think of them at the top of my head. Google would probably work wonders though. Haha!

  8. Kristina Says:

You guys definitely need a tumblr and then I think you’re set!! But youre right, its definitely overwhelming trying to keep up on everything. Theres just not enough time in the day to keep up with all the social networking, let alone do anything else! I applaud you for learning some html though. I do it sometimes and its totally not fun!

  9. lu-lu Says:

i think your missing a youtube account aswell. 🙂 but honestly get what you mean. i think im slightly falling behind with all the tech and i love technology. 🙂

  10. Ashley Says:

    foursquare!

  11. evan Says:

having a ‘bandcamp’ is also great exposure.

  12. Selena Says:

I’ve searched for certain entries on your blog before. It’s not too hard if the exact date or month and year is known, because I can just alter the url address accordingly, but an archive should be a lot more handy. At any rate, you’ve clearly been hard at work on this stuff, and I just wanted to say that it looks nice. Good effort!

Also, I get that feeling of there being too many social networking-type sites. I guess it can be a good way to cover all the bases, but it can also be attention-dividing an unnecessary after a certain point, I think, and a lot of them can probably link up and/or overlap, anyway. I like to keep it simple. I have a Twitter account, and as for the rest of those on your list, I just visit, if need be.

Between your being overwhelmed and asking about what sites you’re missing, I’m not sure if you’re really looking to add more, but…

YouTube (not on the list, but you already have a channel)
Tumblr (a relatively new one that I haven’t quite grasped the concept of)
    FormSpring (for Q&A)
…Um, there’s probably others I’m forgetting, but enough’s enough, right? Haha!

    • Selena Says:

      Wow, my comment got lengthy!
I guess StageIt (which obviously you’ve been using) and UStream would count as well.

      • Selena Says:

Oh yeah, it would be cool if your lyrics were on songmeanings.net too
Alright, I’ll stop with the sites now…maybe. 😛

  13. TaRee Says:

OMG! I feel the same way! These are all the sites I’ve joined in the last week! Tumblr, Soundcloud, Musicans Together, Headliner.fm, Pure Volume, and Noisetrade! That’s in addition to my (2) myspaces, (2) facebooks, (2) youtubes, and twitter! GOOD LUCK! lol.

  14. Miriam Says:

Tumblr and formspring are the new “in” thing, but who knows what their shelf life will be. There’s also flickr and SoundCloud. And while I think they’re awesome, you get most of what they accomplish done on this blog. If you’re trying to increase the JillandKate online presence, you should just look into having it all “synched up” or you’ll need to find more free time keep up with all of this.

Someone mentioned foursquare, but that one weirds me out and I’m not even relatively famous. Ha. Having strangers know where you are? Eh. Of course, you could just never update it, except for when y’all are touring!

And HTML coding? I’ve been working on helping a friend design her wedding website…it’s fun. Way better than the programming I took in school. NERD, yes.

    • Amanda Says:

See, but Four Square is fun because you can get discounts and free things at stores/restaurants/clubs that choose to participate! Haha. One bar in town gives the “Mayor” (person that uses it the most) free drinks for using the app. Haha! My friends and I are often dethroning each other! Cool kids? Totally. I suppose it could get creepy though.

      • Miriam Says:

I totally see the appeal of Foursquare to use with friends. I think it’s fun. But while I appreciate how much J&K engage with us, I don’t know or see the need for them to be that available. But props to them if they do, in which case, drinks on me next time. 🙂

  15. jenbug1988 Says:

Now I may be wrong but wasn’t J&K’s website at one point using tumblr? way back before it suddenly got cool?

But yeah I’m trying to get into tumblr. I think I’m the opposite though I was so HTML savvy that when I couldn’t customise things like I wanted because everything was getting “user friendly” I went a bit mental. WordPress for a good while just annoyed me I like the HTML aspect of things haha I used to love good ol’ freewebs when I used to use that as my blog and edit all the HTML from scratch to do so.

  16. gypsygies Says:

WordPress (blog), Twitter and Facebook. Anything else is overdoing it.
Token website for the curious but social-networking unsavy or unwilling (after all, to view a basic website does not ask you all your personal information – which many just aren’t willing to give any out).

Were you or were you Not – Communications majors???
You can do this! Makin’ your profs proud. You’ve got it. haha.

Now, go rub off on Kelly some and teach her the word “communicate” mixed with the word “fans”. lol

  17. Erin Says:

it is exhausting. i was watching conan, he did the year 3000 monologue thing. he said ‘twitter, facebook, and youtube will all combine to create one super social network called youtwitface. i couldn’t stop laughing. anyways…take a break from it if you need to. we go on vacation in august for 3 days and i don’t have access to the internet or a computer and it is so awesome.

  18. Danielle Says:

“I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed.. but can you ever just be whelmed?” 😉

But anyway, I don’t understand tumblr so you cover everything I understand… good job! haha

  19. jenbug1988 Says:

Oh and you’re missing Daily Booth! Seriously a J&K DailyBooth if you could keep it up daily would be amazing!
and you know if you get it you totally should follow me as the person to introduce you to it! http://dailybooth.com/Jenbug

  20. Alison Says:

I think you have everything covered but i’m not a Technology genius.

Thanks for the archive, i went back and watched your first vlog and wow!

I have a question, where is this “Little Broken Hearts” you speak of?? and can we hear it on your stageit show? Please?

  21. Lauren M. Says:

oh wow….if only you had this set up a few days ago. lol Just kidding.. hehe Seriously though, a few days ago I was going through every SINGLE blog entry and hitting “Old Entries” every single time. It took me an hour or two to get through it all but I needed some inspiration or I was just out of pure bordom. I really do appreciate all the time you put in your blogs and setting them up like this to make it easier:)

I think you have everything covered, I wouldn’t put to much on your plate,I would find it hard to keep up with it all.

  22. Jaclyn Says:

Oh man, I recently added a minor that required me to take a programming class and we briefly touched on HTML. I don’t think I could’ve figured that stuff out if I hadn’t had a textbook and professor telling me what to do haha. So props to you.

I actually deleted my old myspace a couple weeks ago because I never use it. The last comment on my page was from 2008 and that was also probably the last time I logged in haha.

I really only use twitter, facebook, and tumblr though, as far as social networking goes. I mainly use twitter to keep up with friends, artists/musicians/etc, facebook for friends and family (some family that I’ve never got the chance to meet in person too, which is pretty awesome), and tumblr for pictures and the very rare blog.

  23. jasper Says:

    Hey Kate,

You look weird in that photo. I kid, I kid.

  24. Rebekah Says:

Either I don’t read well or everyone is missing the point.

I think all you need is twitter or facebook, youtube and this blog. Or maybe not even the blog if you write notes on facebook.

I had no idea you girls were trying to cover so many bases – I would be overwhelmed too!

Your interaction and keeping connected with fans is appreciated.

    Have a great weekend!
