Song on July 17, 2011 “Burn It Down”

July 17, 2011

BURN IT DOWN

Got a place

And I settled in

Found a man

Who was everything

Everything I wanted

Everything I wanted

Everything I

Caught that liar in his tracks

And I said some things I can never take back

Wouldn’t if I could

Wouldn’t if I could

I wouldn’t if I could

One more ride around this town

I think I’m gonna burn it down

One more night inside this town

I think I’m gonna burn it down

Burn it down

Burn it down

Thought I finally found some friends

Til I felt the knife break through the skin

I wondered if I could

Ever forgive

Oh I wondered

If I could

High and dry in the middle of the night

Nothing to show in the middle of my life

I’d die if I could

Die if I could

Die if I could

One more ride around this town

I think I’m gonna burn it down

One more night inside this town

I think I’m gonna burn it down

Burn it down

Burn it down

I’ll drive away and I’ll never look back

I’ll drive away and I’ll never look back

I’ll drive away and I’ll never look back

One more ride around this town

I think I’m gonna burn it down

One more night inside this town

I think I’m gonna burn it down

Burn it down

Burn it down

One more cry inside this town

I think I’m gonna burn it down

One more lie inside this town

I think I’m gonna burn it down

Burn it down

Burn it down

The Great Outdoors

July 16, 2011

I have been thinking recently how much I enjoy being outdoors.

It always makes me feel better. Being outside always gives me perspective. A stroll around a park. A walk on the beach. A hike. A boat ride on a lake or the ocean (not a CANOE). Sitting on a bench outside somewhere. Something about fresh air and sunshine or a brisk cool breeze makes me feel alive. Seeing beautiful flowers, trees, leaves, sand, mountains, valleys…I dunno. I think it reminds me of my mom too–she loves flowers and has instilled a great appreciate for them in me-which I love and am very thankful for.

Now, let’s not pretend I’m something I’m not. I like brief camping trips ย because I am not the live-off-the-earth-eat-berries-and-pee-in-the-woods-for-extended-periods-of-time-type and I do like a hot shower & a climate controlled room to sleep in (hehehe)…but nonetheless, I LOVE being outside. It makes me feel small in a great big, beautiful world.

I also love to snap pictures…a lot of them while outdoors. Here are a few pictures of the great outdoors that I’ve taken over the last few years…xoxo -kate-

StageIt Story Time.

July 15, 2011

It is no secret that we LOVE doing live, streaming StageIt shows. Thanks to everyone who wore their super ROCKIN’ sunglasses to the last show! We are going to have to do more contests like that because it’s pure entertainment to see the pictures on Facebook afterwards. ๐Ÿ™‚

Many of you have asked at different times for us to explain some of our songs…why we wrote them, when, how, who they’re about, etc. We haven’t had a great opportunity to do this yet, so we are creating an opportunity now!

Our next StageIt show is going to be a Story Tellers show. We will play less songs than usual, but we will take more time to talk about how we wrote each song before we play it. You will get details you may not even want to know. You can ask questions and we’ll do our best to answer them.

So we need to know, what songs do you want to know about? What songs do you want to hear stories about? What songs do you want the dirt on? Let us know in the “Comments” section so we have an idea about what you want to hear most.

Click HERE to get your tickets.

Sunday. July 24. 7PM CST.

Let’s do this!

Kate’s Current Obsessions: Bathroom Edition

July 13, 2011

Here are some things that I’m currently finding a fancy with…the Bathroom Edition. I will give you all my faves from the shower to make-up perks to smelly-good stuff.

1. Softsoap Body Wash

The key is mixing the two…strawberry & vanilla…it smells SO GOOD. Like seriously, strawberry shortcake delight. And bonus factor: the strawberry one has some sort of extracts that also act as a great daily exfoliator. Keeps the skin smooth & soft.

2. ย Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanserย

I love this face wash because it’s super gentle on your skin! It is also SUPER foamy which makes me feel like my skin is getting cleaner ๐Ÿ™‚

3. TRESemme’ Dry Shampoo

I sometimes don’t love taking time to wash & dry my hair…I know, I know…I should…but sometimes I’m lazy & just really don’t want to…so I turn to this stuff. It’s quick, it’s easy and it gives some oily tresses a much needed little boost.

4. MAC Studio Fix Powder

I love this stuff! It gives great coverage for being a powder. It’s also super easy to carry around…especially during the summer days if the mid-day sweaty glow is getting a bit much for you…it’s perfect. If you tend to have dry skin I’d recommend putting it on right after you moisturize in the morning…

5. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

I don’t know about you but my skin is bi-polar. One day it’s oily and the next it can be super dry. It’s just a mess sometimes. But, I have found this cream to be super-duper-handy when my skin gets dry. I like putting a thick layer on before bed when my skin is feeling dryer than normal…I wake up & my skin feels hydrated.

6. Pink All-Over ย Body Mist

Remember how I said sometimes I’m too lazy to shower? Well, this comes in handy when you need a little spritz of freshness. These little bottles travel well and offer a tremendous burst of oomph. This one is called “sweet & flirty”…you know…in case you need a secret weapon of seduction…hahaha.

7. Vaseline Pure Petroleum Jelly

You can use this for so many things but my favorite is dabbing some on your lips if you want a natural shine! Seriously–nothing makes your lips more shiny. It’s kinda amazing. Bonus factor: you can pick it up at Target for.99 cents!

8. Falsies Volume Express Mascara

I get hooked on mascaras and use the same one for pretty much as long as the company makes it. This is my new go-to. I have it in two colors. Very black & brownish black…for everyday use I use the brownish black because it’s a little more natural & brown goes well with green eyes…and I use black for evening or more dramatic eyes. This is probably way too much information about my eye lashes but hey…take it or leave it. This mascara rules.

9. Pixi Bronze Booster

I am always a little nervous using a bronzer…it seems one too many strokes on this stuff on your face and you can come out looking like an orange. So, when I found this stuff I was psyched cause it’s light but totally does the trick. I love using it as a highlighter on my cheekbones or on the top of my eyelids. Makes your face perk up. And it comes with the handy little brush stored underneath.

Okay…there you have it. Those are some of the things I’m liking/using at the moment in my bathroom.

Maybe you’ll find something you might like & try something new!

Enjoy!

Half-Way Point

July 11, 2011

Can you believe we are half-way through the year already? Holy. 2011…on its second leg. Yikes. Does this excite you…or freak you out? Sooner than we know it we are gonna be dressing up for halloween, scarfing down some turkey & decorating for Christmas. OhMMGEE.

Anyway–since we are half-way through the year…what are some things you put on your goal list for the year that need some attending to? Don’t get to November and freak out because the things on your list needed several months attention & therefore you can’t get them done! Review the list, make a plan…accomplish something this year ๐Ÿ™‚ You can do it!

If you need some help coming up with things to accomplish….here are a few sites that feature goal lists or bucket lists…lots of ideas to go around..this one made us laugh just from the title!!

If you feel like sharing, what are some of the things you want to accomplish by the end of the year? Maybe we’ll inspire one another to kick some ‘toosh!

There are 173 days left in the year. How can you make them count?

The “Things I Like” (week of July 3-9)

July 9, 2011

One time we wrote a song called “Things I Like.” You can hear it on our Songs on the 17th album.

This blog is a little spin on that song. It’s gonna be totally random and we will try to post it every so often. We’ll be sharing random things we like. So here it goes:

Funfetti Cake Mix “Stars and Stripes” Edition:ย Now, as delicious as cakes and cupcakes are, the secret to this box is the cookie recipe on the side panel. If you bring Funfetti cookies to any party, we guarantee you will be the most popular person in attendance. You’re welcome.

Rain: Sometimes you just need a good old fashioned rainy day. It’s good for the grass and good for the soul. And it’s a free car wash as well. Score!

SILVER Goat Cheese: Goat cheese is good any time of day. By the way, it’s WAY cheaper at Trader Joe’s than at the regular grocery store. Totally hooked on goat cheese at the moment.

WINGS on NETFLIX! Remember this show? It’s about a small airport in Nantucket (close to Martha’s Vineyard where we went to music school) and it’s awesome! Netflix is the best. There are so many good shows, movies and documentaries to watch.

This Bumper Sticker: Saw this bumper sticker and snapped a photo. Like it.

That concludes this week’s “Things I Like” blog. Hope you liked it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Quotes and Poems and Stuff.

July 8, 2011

Hello hello.

Jill here. It’s rainy and a bit stormy here in Nashville…the type of day that I like to drink coffee and read quotes and poems and be the hipster that I totally am not in real life.

I told you a while back about how I got an iPhone app that has you write 5 things that you’re thankful for every day. I’ve been doing it since the beginning of the year and haven’t missed a day yet. I don’t know about you, but that is not normal for me. Usually it fizzles out a few weeks in and it goes down in history as a great idea that I never followed through on. Ha! But this app is awesome because it reminds me at the end of each day to be thankful. The other great thing about it is that every day it gives you a quote to think on after you enter your 5 things. I have made a list of some of my favorite quotes and I’ll share some of them below.

“Nothing determines who we will become so much as those things we choose to ignore.”

“You can’t build a reputation on what you’re going to do.”

“Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.” ย (I love this one…so true.)

“Those who can’t laugh at themselves leave the job to others.”

These are just a few, but I have always loved quotes like these. They inspire me to think differently and to be better.

Now onto poetry. My favorite poet is Emily Dickinson…I love her writing. It’s quirky and intriguing. She also happens to be from my neck of the woods (New England) so in school, my English teachers really REALLY favored her work. If we weren’t reading Emily Dickinson poems, we were reading Robert Frost…another one of my favorites. New England has some good poets…I’m just saying.

Here is my favorite Emily Dickinson poem. (It’s one of the only poems I know by heart.)

“I’m nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there’s a pair of us -don’t tell!
They’d banish us, you know.

How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!”

I also love this:

“A word is dead when it is said,

Some say.

I say it just begins to live that day.”

So there you have it. My hipster side revealed. Now, I need some more coffee. Bye.
