A Letter To Yourself

December 31, 2011

So we started something last year…hopefully we will to do it every year and it will become a New Year’s Eve tradition. Who knows…maybe you could start doing it too? On December 31, 2010 we sat down and wrote letters to ourselves and sealed them (with fancy red wax stuff) to open exactly one year later…on December 31, 2011.

See exhibit A:

So here we find ourselves. Exactly 365 days later. On the eve of a new year. 2012. Who knows what exciting things this year will hold??

Don’t be afraid to set goals because you think you cannot reach them. You can. And even if you don’t reach them…trying for them might be better than thinking about them. You can do it. DREAM BIG. BIGGER.

We are excited to open the letters and see what we wrote (we have NO idea…ahaha….memory loss…yikes!)…and YES….we will be writing new letters to open on December 31, 2012…

This post concludes our 31 days of blogging…boy it’s been fun…but don’t stress…one of our goals for 2012 is to spruce up our blog. So stay tuned. Exciting stuff on the horizon.

Please don’t drink and drive. Stay alive.

Much love to the bestest friends/fans these girls could ask for.

Hello From The Studio Day

Our 31 days of blogging continues with a hello from the studio.

Love, love, love…

Winter Accessories

December 29, 2011

To make it through the cold, bitter winter you need a few essentials…here are some j&k winter-weather survival tips:

1. Aveeno Intense Repair Cream

This is not for the summer days folks. This stuff is the big guns for under-hydrated winter skin. It has oat essence so it helps calm any pesky dry skin irritations and will leave your skin moist and dreaming of summer.

2. A Warm Scarf

Any scarf will do…but his one Kate’s mom handmade for her…like she knit it from scratch!! Warm, cozy & we love the bright pink color…spruces up any drab winter woes. For some reason if your head and neck stay reasonably warm you can generally handle the cold.

3. Hot Chocolate…or really any warm beverage.

Nothing like warming your insides with a nice sugary cup of hot chocolate. Yes and yes.

4. Lip balm

You gotta keep your lips smooth & hydrated….New Years Eve is coming up πŸ˜‰ Nothing worse than chapped, cracked lips. Keep them kissable with Aquaphor Healing Ointment.

5. Flip-Top Glove/Mittens (combined!)

Not sure what the technical name for these is, but they are gloves where your fingers can breathe, but you can flip the mitten over for warmth. Highly functional. Also there are lots of cute options out there. Two thumbs up.

6. Beanie or Ear Cover

Don’t think for a second that the ol’ j&k are gonna forget our favorite winter accessory: the headpiece. Whether it be a beanie or ear warmer, ear muffs, or any other type of winter hat…you can bet it’ll be on our heads during these cold months.

Stay warm! Stay hydrated! Beat the winter blues! πŸ™‚

A Bit Of Inspiration.

“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”

-Maya Angelou

You don’t always have to have the answers.

It’s okay to not even really know what you’re doing or why.

Do what you like to do.

Make the best choices you know how to make.

Surround yourself with good people.

Love well.

Give yourself a break.

Sing the song that’s inside of you.

Much love.

Today I (kate) felt like a magician… because I started with this raw, whole wheat organic grain…straight from the 50lb bag…

And ended with these four loaves of bread…

I will blog a step by step picture blog soon πŸ™‚

10 Things…

10 Things We Do Around Christmas Time More Than The Rest Of The Year…

1. Eat more dessert. Way more.

2. Play more board games with friends and family.

3. Read by the fire and maybe even doze off.

4. Think about God, faith, spiritual things in a more in depth way.

5. Drink more wine.

6. Go to more movies.

7. See more kindness all around.

8. Send and receive more group text messages and/or emails.

9. Go to bed at an embarrassingly early hour.

10. Enjoy the people you don’t get to see enough.

A Very Ping Pong Christmas

December 25, 2011

Merry Christmas everyone!

We hope today was a wonderful day for each of you and that all of you felt loved! Here is a little story from Kate’s Christmas day:

So recently my dad has gotten really into playing ping pong aka table tennis. He is actually really good but I continually am poking fun at his intensity regarding his love for this game. So, as a fun little Christmas gift I got my dad this mini ping pong set. You are supposed to set it up on a table…looks something like this:

He thought it was hysterical! But one of the pieces was missing for the net so we couldn’t set it up…FAIL. But that didn’t stop us…my dad being the handy man he is found some wood and set it up across the table…creating a faux net if you will. So we played mini-ghetto-table tennis…and it was SO MUCH FUN. We laughed and laughed…the paddles we tiny and hard to control but it was good times for sure. Here are some pics…

My dad and the mini-ping-pong-paddle.

This is where I was talking to the ball asking it very nicely not to go off the table when I hit it πŸ™‚ And you have a nice view of the ghetto “net.”

Now you get it…tiny table, tiny paddles = me doubled over in laughter πŸ™‚

I highly recommend this gift….super great memories were made.

Merry Christmas.

Twas The Night Before Christmas…

December 24, 2011

Actually…this should be titled “Tis The Night Before Christmas…” but, it is what it is.

So this will be short because well, it’s Christmas Eve and there’s a lot more to be excited about than a j&k blog…haha! But…we recently saw this bumper sticker in Nashville and had to take a picture because we didn’t know if it was serious or a joke. (In case you can’t read it, it says “I ❀ My Grandog.”)

We discussed it for a while and figured it must be a joke. We laughed.

And then alas… I was in Target and I heard a lady tell the clerk that her “GRANDOG” was coming to town for Christmas so she needed to buy treats. For. Real. So this is a thing??? This is a thing. And so our question is answered.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!! To you and yours! And your Grandogs if you have any!

What would you do…

Come On Ring Those Bells

December 22, 2011

Do you have one Christmas song that always gets you in the spirit? Mine is “Come On Ring Those Bells” by Evie. Every year, ever since I can remember, my mom puts on the Evie Christmas tape at Christmas time…YES, i said TAPE…as in cassette tape. Remember those? They look like this:

For some reason this particular song sticks out in my memory from when I was a kid. I would prance around the house putting up decorations or wrapping gifts and sing this song out loud and proud. My brother would get really annoyed at me (what else are little sisters for?) and I would just keep on singing.

I look forward to hearing that song every Christmas, and luckily the cassette is still in tact! After all these years, Evie and I still belt it out at our house around Christmas.

Thanks to the wonder that is YouTube, I found a little video with this song. I have to admit though, it’s not quite the same as flipping that cassette over and pressing Play. Take a listen, though, and get in the spirit with me. Two more days, friends!
