A View

One of the things that I (kate) love about this life that I lead is that I get to travel…no, I’m not crazy about long security lines and swollen ankles after long flights but the fact that you can wake up in the morning and be in one place and hours later arrive in another place is amazing. Or on tour you go to sleep in one city on the bus and open the door and step off the bus in another city. It blows my mind. And makes me ridiculously happy every time. Travel brings loved ones together. Travel brings adventure. Travel means learning. Travel has a way of making you appreciate your home & what you have.

One of my favorite things to do is look out the window and listen to music. Seriously…I can look out of a plane or car window for many an hour and be perfectly content. I love seeing the vastness of this world. I love seeing the clouds and seeing the sun shining through them. I am somewhat secretly obsessed with the sky and the stars and planes. Sidenote….I could sit and look at the stars for endless hours. I guess it’s just that I love that planes get you closer to the stars. Flying at night is also super cool cause people always look down at the lights below…which is great but I love to look up and see the stars…surrounded by sky that is almost black and then there are these bright shining stars above you. Seriously. OK…nerd alert. I’m done.

The first couple shows of this run we had to fly…so I was listening to Bon Iver’s latest record & took these pics:

Best part was that all these flights lead me to this spot:

Lucky girl I am.

Night flights are the best, there’s something about going on an adventure while the people below are sleeping that’s magical. I also find night flights strangely peaceful.

I like the destination where all your flights led you.

I was always comfortable staying at home with my familiar surroundings (and often scared to leave it). But within the past few years, I’ve traveled to different states/countries which made me realize how big the world is. Sure home is great, but going to a new location has a certain perk to it. There are so many different types of places and experiences out there and I think that at some point, everyone needs to breakaway from staying in that “safe” place at home and face something new. (/end ramble)

I was on a bus today and I just love listening to music, staring out the window, and pretending I’m in a music video or movie. Nerdy but fun 🙂

PS- I’ve been obsessing over the song “Blood Bank” lately. (I know, not from the new record. Oh well 🙂 ) <—-how does one end a parenthesis with a smiley??

I could hear the low roar of the airplane engine through my slightly congested ears when I saw those pictures, and it made my heart go thump. I love planes, trains, automobiles — prolly stage coaches and horses, too, if I were living 150 years ago. Must be something genetic. Can’t wait to get on the road again. I finally got smart and found a way to get paid for it, too, just like you (well, technically, not yet, so I prolly shouldn’t be saying anything here until after I have an actual job and an actual paycheck in hand, lest some smart potential future employer figures out that I would “work” for free if given the chance). Shhh. 🙂

I am a little envious of your traveling, I must say. I’ve been on a plane 6 times in my entire life (and never at night 😦 )and it’s always to the same place (DTW – RSW haha). In the last year I think I’ve left Michigan only once, for about 36 hours :-P, but I’m totally with you on the stars/sky thing. Whenever I’m out walking my dog at night I always get caught up with the sky, love when I catch the occasional shooting star (it’s normal to walk a dog at 1am, right? not because he needs to go out, I just like taking walks at night haha…also, not so safe to stare upwards while walking around a hilly neighborhood, especially in the winter lol). I wish I lived further away from the city where that orange glow didn’t interfere with the stars though. That’s what I love about northern Michigan, you can see SO MANY stars up there.

One of the things on my bucket list is actually to see the northern lights. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to see that in person.

Your blog reminded me of Breakaway…”I’d just stare out my window” 🙂 I, too can enjoy the good music with a view combo, and I enjoyed reading your reflections on it. You are very lucky, and it’s nice that you appreciate even the simple things from the life you lead.

Travelling is a big passion of mine. I’m lucky I’m at a stage of my life where I can go experience new cultures, new adventures, new places. Finance is the only issue holding me back. I relate to this post so much, love being in the sky not knowing whats in store for me once landed. Love the post 🙂

Travel! It’s an obsession of mine. I however could live without the plane rides. I have realized it is a necessary evil for getting to new places and seeing the ones I love but I have been on more planes in the last 6 years then I ever dreamed:) It does give me the opportunity to make up stories in my head about where people are going and why-I mean there are always so many people at the airport-what are they all doing?! My favorite is sitting on a train and watching the landscape pass by whilst listening to some awesome music! Check out Ben and the Sea’s EP- perfect for daydreaming about life! http://noisetrade.com/benandthesea

I absolute hate flying but i agree about staring out of the window and listening to music. Could sit for hours doing that 🙂

  16. Kristin H. (@Sundancer24) Says:

I love traveling. I also hate the swollen feet, haha. I used to be afraid to sit and look out the window while on the plane but the more I traveled and had to actually sit in the “window seat” the more I appreciated what a beautiful view it is. I love looking down at the ground and seeing how the Unite States (I haven’t went to a different country yet *sad face*) looks like a big quilt of squares and inside these squares are amazing things (river, mountains, homes, etc) and it’s awesome to see it all right before your eyes 🙂

    Love,
    Kristin
